Propane : Safety Tips
GENERAL PROPANE CHARACTERISTICS
. Propane is transported and stored as a liquid.

Propane (sometimes called LPG or LP-gas) is a colorless and odorless gas.
. Since propane is odorless, it is intentionally odorized so leaks can be detected.
The odor is similar to rotten eggs.
.
Propane vapors are heavier than air and may accumulate in low-lying areas
such as basements and ditches or along floors.
.
Propane is flammable when mixed with air (oxygen) and can be ignited by
many different sources.
PROPANE DO's
.
Always follow all of the manufacturer's instructions and keep written materials
and manuals in a safe, accessible place.
.
Always use the grill outdoors in a well-ventilated area. Do not bring cylinders
indoors or into an enclosed space such as a garage.
.
Always open the grill hood before lighting, and light according to the
manufacturer’s instructions.
.
Use foil or a drip pan to catch juices and to help avoid grease fires.
.
Make sure the grill burner controls are turned off when not in use & keep the
cylinder valve closed.
.
Make sure the gas grill is shut off and cooled off before covering your grill
after use.
. Always use or store cylinders in an upright, vertical position.
Store them outdoors away from sources of ignition.
.
After filling, immediately transport your cylinder home in an upright position.
Keep your vehicle ventilated with the cylinder valve closed and plugged
or capped.

If there is a significant and uncontrollable release of gas or a fire, call the fire
department immediately and move all people and pets away from the unit.
. If you detect the pungent smell of propane gas, immediately turn off the gas
and do not ignite.
PROPANE DONT's
. Do not leave the cylinder in your vehicle. . Do not use matches or lighters to check for leaks.

Do not allow children to tamper or play with the cylinder or grill. . Do not use, store or transport your cylinder where it would be exposed to high
temperatures. (This includes storing spare cylinders under or near the grill.
.
Never leave cooking food unattended. . Do not use a propane gas cylinder if it shows signs of external damage, such
as
dents, gouges, bulges, fire damage, corrosion, leakage or excessive rust.
